Let's get back to Valmiki's Ramayana, and Ravana an alleged villain kidnaps Sita and escapes to his palace in present day Sri Lanka in his flying chariot called Pushpak Vimana. Ravana did not touch Sita when she was his captive. Many believe that Ravana could not force himself on her due to the fact that Sita was pure and sacred and thus demotivated him from doing so.
He tried his best to seduce her but failed miserably. Ravana was the idol for his community and he was the ultimate for seduction game. However, Sita did not find him irresistible and remained unfazed.
Ravana was an expert in astrology. He had written the "Ravana- Samhita", which reveals how to predict the future by observing the movements of stars and planets and how to change the future using gemstones.
Ravana's niece Trijata once in the disguise of a maid sneeks into Sita's chamber and asked her about Ravana. Sita said, Ravana is a scholar, architect, fortune teller and has knowledge about planetary movements. Trijata was so taken aback of what Sita said and admired her for her honesty and kind words. Trijata was the daughter of Ravana's brother Vibhishana.
Ravana's evil desires were unmasked when Parvati engages him to build a palace for her and her husband Shiva. Ravana was a brilliant architect and sighting his beautiful work the hermit Shiva asked him to enjoy a boon for creating the palace. Ravana had fallen in love with his own creation and asked for the palace itself. Ravana had taken away the palace he had built and placed it atop Mount Trikuta, right in the center of Lanka.
Ravana once created a lute for Shiva using one of his heads (he believed to have ten heads) as the gourd, one of his arms as the beam and the nerves of his arm as the strings.
Pleased with this instrument, Shiva offered Ravana whatever he desired. Ravana had seen a beautiful woman on Mount Kailas. I want that woman as my wife, said Ravana. Shiva agreed, not realizing that Ravana had asked for Parvati. Parvati was not angry with Shiva, for she knew Shiva was so innocent that he did not know the distinction between a woman and a wife. But she was annoyed with Ravana for taking advantage of her husband's innocence. So she asked Brahma to transform a female frog into a woman, her double or dupe. Mistaking this woman (Mandodari) as Parvati, Ravana took her to Lanka and made her his queen.
Even though, Mandodari was his queen, he had fallen head over heels for Sita, Rama's beautiful wife. Mandodari used all the tricks in the trade to stop Ravana from falling for Sita but to no avail.
He abducts Sita and flew over to Lanka and makes her a captive. He puts her in Ashok Vana next to his palace under the close watch of his family members. They have provided her everything which can make a person happy.
Her body could be imprisoned, but never her mind.
Sita remained faithful to Rama and resisted all Ravana's advances to seduce her.
Mandodari said we all tried to win her heart but she won the heart of each and everyone of us. She told Ravana, please release this wonderful girl from captivity and let her go.
Every night Mandodari and the women of the city sang for Ravana and danced for him and pleasured him every way, hoping to make him get over his obsession with Sita. But the more she said no, the more he desired her.
"When bad times come we are unable to stop ourselves from doing stupid things", Mandodari remembered the wise saying this.
Ravana did not outrage Sita's modesty and only tried to seduce her.
Ravana's end did come as Rama and his army set fire to his palace and destroyed his kingdom and killed Ravana and released Sita.
